Developing a Pipeline of Leaders
York Regional Police developed a pipeline of leaders. We partnered with them to enhance their already successful middle-leadership development program by designing and implementing “book-end” leadership programs at both their executive and new-to-management levels. This “stacked” approach allowed continuity in leadership expectations.
01
Challenge:
York Regional Police, like many organizations, was poised for a leadership vacuum through large waves of retirement heading their way. With a need to both close potential leadership gaps and rapidly develop people for leadership positions, the service was interested in augmenting its already successful middle-leadership program offerings.
02
Solution:
In partnership with YRP, our focus was on building a pipeline of leaders at every level of management in the organization. We focused our energy on determining and aligning the leadership competencies necessary for YRP to achieve its strategic direction. Together, we defined the depth of skill necessary at each level of leadership and designed programming to develop these competencies.
The approach provided clarity to the organization about the expectation of leadership roles and supported their already great work in leadership training and development.
03
Results:
YRP was able to capitalize on leadership development through aligned programming at every level of its management structure. Additionally, the internal development approach included team capstone projects that had future leaders working on real-life change projects within the organization, therefore enabling both individual leadership development and broader organizational development.
